Our Founder’s Story

A Lifelong Commitment to Excellence

DJ Horton’s path to the accounting profession began early — at 13 years old.

Recognizing her natural interest in organization, logic, and math, her businessman grandfather invited her to help after school and during the summers in the accounting office of his small company. She stepped into a level of responsibility beyond her years with enthusiasm, and immediately felt at home.

She learned on the job, diving into the books, calculating receivables and expenses, and seeing firsthand how good accounting supports a strong business.

That early experience shaped the course of her life. She went on to graduate from Bryant University, become a CPA, and, embracing the entrepreneurial spirit her grandfather instilled in her, open her own firm.

She built DJ Horton & Associates on the same principles she saw in her grandfather’s business: trust, excellence, hard work, and a deep commitment to the people they serve.

Since 1989, DJ has worked with clients across a wide range of industries, including financial services, health care, food production, construction, private business, nonprofits and family foundations. In addition, she has organized finances for high-net worth individuals and expats working in the US and abroad. Together with her team, she helps clients organize accounting systems, manage their books, prepare taxes, and stay connected to their financial picture throughout the year.

“The excitement that began for me decades ago is the same energy and passion I bring to my clients today. I am fortunate to have discovered early what I love to do — and to continue doing it every day. I will always be grateful to my grandfather. He saw my talent, believed in my abilities, and trusted my work. His trust was my gift. Trust is what I base this company on.

“At DJ Horton and Associates, we serve as an integrated part of our clients’ teams, helping them understand where they stand, make informed decisions, and move forward with confidence. We would be honored to be entrusted with your business.”
